Why does the wind blow?
Talk about it together
What do you like to watch move when the wind is blowing?

Why does the wind blow? Let's wonder together!
The Sun warms the ground, but not every place gets warm the same way. Warm air starts to rise up.
Cooler air moves in to fill the space the warm air left behind. Moving air is called wind.
The Sun keeps warming places all around Earth. So air keeps moving, and we feel the wind blow.
So that's why the wind blows: the Sun warms air unevenly, and air moves around. Wind is air on the move!
For grown-ups: the science
Wind blows because air moves from cooler places to fill spaces where warm air rises.
Solar heating is uneven across Earth's surface. Warmer air becomes less dense and rises, creating pressure differences that make cooler air move in. Wind is air moving, shaped by pressure differences, Earth's rotation, land, water, and weather.
