Mount Everest's elevation is measured at 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet) above sea level. It sits on the border between Nepal and China (the Tibet Autonomous Region), in the Himalayan range formed by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Ongoing plate movement continues to push it slowly higher over long periods, though erosion and earthquakes also affect its height.

Everest's peak rises 29,032 feet above sea level. That's so high, it reaches almost as far up as airplanes fly.
