Static electricity happens when invisible, tiny electricity builds up, such as when things rub together.
Static electricity happens when electrons move as materials touch or rub, creating an uneven amount of electricity. Charged things can pull together or push apart with electric force. When electricity suddenly moves through the air, it makes a spark or a snapping sound. On dry days, electricity does not escape as easily, so static electricity is easier to notice.
