A warm summer tree can buzz so loudly. Why do cicadas make that sound?
Most cicadas come out when the weather is warm. The warmth helps their bodies move and work.
A male cicada bends special parts on his body very quickly. This makes the loud buzzing sound we hear.
He sings to help female cicadas find him in the trees. Each kind has its own song pattern.
So cicadas sing in summer because warm weather helps them call for a mate.
