Why does your body need sleep every day? Let's wonder together!

After a busy day, your body starts to feel tired. That is a sign it needs quiet time to rest.

While you sleep, your body keeps working in gentle ways. It fixes little wear and helps you grow.

Your brain rests too, and sorts some things you learned that day. Sleep helps you wake up ready to play and learn.

So that's why we need sleep. It helps our bodies and brains get ready for a new day!

For grown-ups: the science

We need sleep because it helps our bodies rest, grow, and get ready to learn and play.

Sleep supports physical growth, tissue repair, immune function, energy balance, and brain processes such as memory consolidation and learning. Preschool children typically need about 10 to 13 hours of sleep in a 24-hour day, including naps when needed.
